With Stefano Pioli’s reign as AC Milan’s head coach all but over, his heir is being decided. Today, a report has suggested that the Rossoneri have enquired about one of their favourites.

Everyone knows Pioli’s inevitable fate, and he has shown signs of this in his recent press conferences. However, the club are sticking to their word and will wait until the end of the season to announce that they will change their head coach.

Several names have flown about, and it could be argued that Milan’s reluctance to leave safety has cost them on some occasions, given some of their targets may join other clubs. For example, look at Thiago Motta, who the Rossoneri are desperately trying to claw back.

An option that remains viable, though, is Roberto De Zerbi, and Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) have reported that in recent days, the Diavolo have enquired about his services and have had a response.

As a manager, De Zerbi fits the profile of what Milan desires – a young head coach with an innovative brand of football that excites. Above all, though, he has an exceptional record with improving young talent.

There is a drawback to this – it will cost €15 million to release him from his contract with Brighton, and chances of a discount on this are slim.
